Pt. Hariprasad Chaurasia is a name synonymous with flute. Flute was introduced to the world of Indian Classical Music by Late Pannalal Ghosh. Pt. Hariprasad Chaurasia took it a step further and merged it with the entire fabric of world music.
Born in a family of wrestlers, Pt. Hariprasad Chaurasia was innitially trained under the guidance of Late Pt. Bholanath prasanna. After that, he started working as a radio artist in Orissa. Thanks to his mischievous nature and talent gifted by god, he became very popular and the dancers there used to be behind him so that he would play at their show.
Later, he got transferred to Mumbai and he was quite unsure about the future there. But, he got a break in the film music and after that. Hariprasad Chaurasia became the most sought after flutist. What made Pt. Hariprasad Chaurasia look for a Guru again is a story which I will be sharing in some other post. How he got accepted by his Guru, Guruma Annapurna Devi and his journey after that is even more interesting.
Today, Pt. Hariprasad Chaurasia is undoubtedly the best flute player we have. But money, respect and fame were not enough to satisfy him. He enjoys the company of his disciples and prefers spending most of his time at his Vrindaban Gurukul passing on the knowledge he has.
